BANSHEE

‘Say My Name’

EP Review

Banshee, the four piece, female fronted Rock band are back. This time with a brand new EP to go with their latest re- vamped name and it’s most definitely awesome. Having previously played Download Festival and slowly creeping into the Rock genre with some great reviews I couldn’t resist checking out what all the fuss was about. Clearly influenced by the Electro synth sounds used by ‘Bring me the Horizon’ paired with an aggressive vocal performance and a hint of sweet innocence this makes for a very captivating EP. I must add that if you’re into edgy guitar riffs you won’t be disappointed.

It’s rare these days that an EP would start with an Intro however these guys know how to make a gripping start. Featuring voice distortion well recognised by the likes of Lenny Kravitz we hear the synth kick in from the offset immediately putting this band in a position at the top of my playlist.

Following on from the intro we hear the album title ‘Say My Name’. To sum this song up in three words I’d say Catchy, beefy and transfixing. On this track, I can hear proficiencies musically that create an upbeat and somewhat theatrical and powerful performance. The lyrics are memorable and repetitive, mostly within the chorus and this layers perfectly over synth sounds and ‘sub like’ drums to make for a great song, I like it.

Banshee have an excellent chemistry between one another much like well-known female fronted Halestorm, they have the ability to be technical, catchy and sophisticated all at once, this was easily recognised when I heard the 3rd track on the album entitled ‘Eagles’. Changing the EP up slightly this includes a breakdown section, always interesting whilst still staying true to their roots and giving listeners that hard rock edge.

‘One step behind’ continuing with the electro pop sounds, and beefy bass notes makes for an EP that is very diverse. A key trait I look for in a band is how different they came make a song to avoid an EP or Album becoming too “samey”.

Good lyrics, memorable, relatable, rebel like and original. This is a fast pace EP. Very appealing to a younger alternative audience.

To finish off this album we hear ‘Landing Strip’ a hard hitting and heavy song. A strong, powerful performance from a fantastic unsigned band, relatively new with a new name, these guys… and gal should go far.
